For many, picking just one item proved challenging because our collection offers many incredibly stunning pieces of jewelry and coins that offer rich history and more. See what each of us selected below:

For her jewelry selection, Danelle picked a stunning 14K yellow gold, diamond, and tanzanite vintage necklace. This necklace offers a dainty, twisted gold chain and an intricately designed pendant featuring diamonds and a stunning tanzanite center stone. Price: $1,999.

Danelle also picked a very special item for her coin selection. She selected a 2012 P 5 oz 25C El Yunque Puerto Rico coin. This is Danelle’s favorite coin because her family visited El Yunque National Forest in February 2022. During their trip, they hiked up the mountain and then enjoyed the rainbow from the top of Mount Britton Tower. Price: $375.

Are Diamonds Truly Forever? Everything to Know About Diamonds at David’s Jewelry

diamonds at David's Jewelry

We’ve all heard the sayings “Diamonds are forever,” “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” and “Angels are like diamonds.” Diamonds have been used in jewelry for centuries, and are a staple in the jewelry industry. But what makes these precious stones so special? Keep reading to learn about the different cuts of diamonds, what to look for when purchasing a diamond, and how you can find your perfect diamond at David’s Jewelry and Coin Exchange.

Diamond Classifications

Diamonds have been a popular stone for engagement rings for decades. They are known for their timeless beauty and are one of the planet’s strongest materials. One of the reasons diamonds are a popular choice for engagement rings is their ability to be cut and shaped in so many different ways. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) categorizes the different shapes by their unique cuts. Some of the most popular shapes include:

  • Asscher – A square diamond cut with rectangular facets.
  • Cushion – A square-shaped diamond with rounded corners and larger facets.
  • Emerald – A rectangular-shaped diamond with long rectangular facets.
  • Heart – A heart-shaped diamond. The shape of this diamond can vary based on the length-to-width ratio.
  • Marquise – A long, oval-shaped diamond with rounded sides and pointed tips.
  • Oval – An oval-shaped diamond with long sides and rounded edges.
  • Pear – A brilliant-cut diamond with a single point and rounded end.
  • Princess – A square-shaped diamond with pointed corners.
  • Radiant – A square-shaped diamond with trimmed corners and long facets along the sides of the stone.
  • Rose – A round diamond with a flat bottom and facets on the surface.
  • Round – A round cone-shaped diamond with deep facets.
  • Trillion – A triangular diamond with deep facets.

Tips for Buying Diamonds

Picking out a diamond for an engagement ring is an important decision and can be overwhelming. We’ve been helping our customers for over 25 years with jewelry needs of all kinds, and we’ve found that these simple tips will help us work together to find the perfect diamond.

  • Set a budget: There are many options to choose from, and setting a budget range will help us find a selection of diamonds to fit your needs.
  • Look at the 4 C’s: Determine your desired cut, color, carat weight, and clarity of the stone. We will work with you to find a diamond with these qualities within your budget.
  • Find her style: Take a look at her existing jewelry collection and what she tends to wear. Does she wear more classic or modern jewelry? Does she wear jewelry with thick bands or smaller bands? You can even snap a few pictures of the jewelry she wears. Keeping her style in mind when selecting a diamond will help ensure she falls in love with her ring at first sight!
  • Find her shape: Again, diamonds (especially in engagement rings) are prized for their versatility in shapes and cuts. However, the special person in your life may have her own preferences for shape, style, and setting. Common shapes are round and square, as they go with most every attire and are certified classics. If she prefers elegant and vintage design and dress, she’ll likely be happy with these kinds of diamond shapes. Style is something to look out for too. For reference, round-shaped diamonds are cut in brilliant style, with “style” indicating facet arrangement (brilliant styles give off more sparkle and reduce appearance of inclusions). There are different settings you can choose from as well, with statement settings suiting the chic and glamorous gal and more low-key and secure settings readily adapted to the outdoorsy type. Common settings include:
    • Three stone – Large center diamond with two accompanying sidestones
    • Halo – Center stone adorned with smaller gemstones for more sparkle and larger appearance
    • Sidestone – A larger center stone bookended by small gemstones and diamonds for more color and sparkle
    • Solitaire – The most popular engagement ring setting that can be bezel set (more secure) or prong set (more light capture)
  • Find her size: The most common ring size in the U.S. is a size 6. However, you can easily find your partner’s ring size by finding a ring she already wears and tracing the inside of the ring on a piece of paper. You can also place the ring on your finger and trace a line around where the ring stops. These measurements will help us determine the correct ring size. If you’re unsure, always estimate a larger ring size, as it’s much easier to size a ring down than to size a ring up. If the ring isn’t the right size, we’d be more than happy to resize it!

Investing in Gold and Silver Coins and Bullion: Why It’s Worth It

bullion

In today’s economy, there are many different investment options ranging from stocks, bonds, NFTs, and cryptocurrencies. Each of these investments operates in different ways and yields profit at different rates. It can be a lot to take in! However, investing in gold or silver coins and bullions is a safe option that isn’t nearly as complicated. Keep reading to learn why you should consider investing in coins and bullion.

Why Invest In Gold and Silver Coins And Bullion?

Firstly, investing in gold and silver coins and bullion offers peace of mind that many other types of investments cannot. Coins and bullion are tangible items. You can see, feel, touch, and physically count your portfolio. You’ll always know how much you have. Secondly, gold and silver coins and bullion are considered safer investments. They are less prone to high inflation rates and are more secure during uncertain financial times. These items are typically valued by weight and material.

Getting Started in Investing in Gold and Silver

So, where do you start? Start by determining how much you would like to invest. Traditional investors recommend holding 5% to 15% of your personal assets in gold and silver coins and bullion. The next step is to  create a diverse portfolio by purchasing different types of precious metals. Gold is a bit more stable than silver, but silver tends to follow economic activity. Additionally, silver can be easier to use as a form of payment due to the smaller denominations. How you create your coin and bullion portfolio all depends on your financial needs and sensitivity to financial risk.

Where to Buy Coins and Bullion

coins and bullion

The safest option for buying gold and silver coins or bullion is to shop in-store. Buying these items online can be risky and unsafe because you can’t be sure who you are buying from, the quality and authenticity of the items, or if your items will be delivered safely. When you shop with us, you’ll have access to our extensive selection, and our team of experts will be there to help you along the way.

We’re Here to Help

Pearls Are In: Local Pearl Accessories at David’s Jewelry

Pearls are classic, simple, and elegant. You have probably seen many of the women in your life donning these unique gemstones. Pearls have been a staple of style for centuries and have a rich history of representing nobility, class, beauty, and much more. Trends come and go, but pearls are usually a mainstay. Now, the jewelry trends say that pearls are not only in style but popular and in demand! Here is everything you need to know about the history of pearls and how to accessorize with pearls today!

History

Pearls are unique in many ways. They are the oldest known gemstone and the only gemstone created by a living creature. Pearls were also once rarer than diamonds, making them immensely expensive and typically only worn by high-standing nobility. The practice of royalty possessing pearls dates back to 2300 BC. The royal family of England carried on the tradition of pearls as a symbol of power and wealth. Queen Elizabeth I became known for wearing her pearls and frequently stood for portraits wearing pearls sewn into her clothing or draped around her neck.

Pearl Statements

The history of pearls indicates that the gemstones have commonly been worn to show symbols of status, style, and wealth. Today, pearls are worn to convey many different meanings. During the UK’s first lockdown of 2020, the Queen used a three-strand pearl necklace from her father, King David VI, to convey a comforting and reassuring message that “we will meet again.” Additionally, actress Emma Watson wore pearl droplet earrings with celestial symbols at the Earthshot Prize in 2021 to make a statement about sustainability.

Pearl Accessories Today

Thankfully, pearls are no longer reserved for only a select few. In fact, pearls are very popular in current style trends. Celebrities like Harry Styles and Rihanna have been spotted accessorizing red-carpet looks with pearl-studded sunglasses or a simple single-strand necklace. Right now, the most popular pearl pieces are paired with gold metals. This gold and pearl styling can be seen in rings, earrings, necklaces, ear cuffs, hair clips, and more! Additionally, pearls no longer have to be perfectly spherical or without any blemishes. Irregular shapes, colors, and sizes are welcome in current trends!

Local Pearl Accessories at David’s Jewelry & Coin Exchange

Pearls are timeless, classic, and elegant, and we are so excited to see the rising excitement about these unique gemstones. Come shop our collection of pearl accessories if you are as excited as we are! We carry a diverse collection of jewelry and accessories both in-store and online. Custom Ring Wrap for Aggie Ring: Come Upgrade Your Graduation Ring

It’s hard to think of a greater moment, besides graduation, during an Aggie’s time at Texas A&M than receiving their Aggie ring. You may also think there’s no way to make your ring look better than it already does.

And we must admit: it’s pretty much perfect. From the craftsmanship to the symbolism, the Aggie ring excellently embodies the spirit of the 12th Man. That’s why it’s remained relatively unchanged since 1933, except when the name on the ring was changed in 1963 to match the changing of the school name.

The only thing that could make it more perfect is a custom ring wrap, and we can help!

What Is a Custom Ring Wrap for Your Aggie Ring?

A ring wrap, also called a ring enhancer or ring guard, is another ring that wraps around the main ring and can be custom made to fit any specifications. Ring wraps  were initially designed to protect a solitaire or engagement ring from getting damaged or slipping off. Nowadays, they can be used for any ring and can have as much thought and design as your main ring.

The Process

We make it easy and affordable to design the custom ring wrap for your Aggie ring with us. Bring your Aggie ring with you into the store. We’ll work together to design the ring wrap that you want that’s also in your budget. We can use any color diamond or gemstone and 14K yellow or white gold in your design. We can even add a diamond to the crest of your Aggie ring, too!

When the design is complete, we put it in AutoCAD for you to review and approve. This process takes about a week. After we have your approval, we get to work making your ring wrap! Making the wrap can take up to three weeks. Once it’s finished, we’ll give you a call to let you know your order is ready for payment and pickup. The entire process takes approximately a month.

Why Choose David’s Jewelry for Your Ring Wrap Needs?

You could go to a conventional jewelry store for your ring wrap needs, but you won’t get the experience you’ll have at David’s Jewelry. Our amazing customer service and much lower prices make us the better choice. Not to mention we have a large variety of traditional, modern, and rare diamonds and gemstones in many different colors and sizes for you to choose from. You won’t find a collection like ours anywhere else.

Let’s Get Started!

National Coin Week: What It Means to David’s Jewelry & Coin Exchange

national coin week

It’s no secret that, around here, we love numismatics (collecting coins and paper currency). That’s why we’re so excited about National Coin Week! If you’re a numismatist like us, keep reading for some fun ways you can celebrate this historic hobby all week long.

Ways to Celebrate National Coin Week

Brush up on your history.

The collection of coins and paper money has a rich history, starting with when the first coin was minted between 652-615 BC by King Ardys of Lydia. They were made from the naturally occurring alloy electrum.

Numismatics is also referred to as the “Hobby of Kings” because of the esteemed reputation of the first collectors. In 1836, members of other professional societies founded the Royal Numismatic Society. They immediately began publishing what is now known as the Numismatic Chronicle.

The first National Coin Week was February 9-12, 1924. The American Numismatic Association hosted it as a way to spread the word about numismatics and increase membership for the club. Later on, they moved the week of observance to the third week of April, and it has remained there ever since.

Visit your local coin shop.

We love talking coins with other enthusiastic numismatists! Whether you’re an experienced collector or just getting started, we would love to help you. There’s nothing quite like finding the last coin to finalize a collection or making the first purchase to begin a new one.

With over 25 years of experience, we’re experts at completing sets and locating specific years and types of coins. We have a large selection of coins to choose from, including Morgan Silver Dollars, Peace Silver Dollars, Half-Dollars, Buffalo Nickels, mint sets, proof sets, and more.

But it doesn’t stop there. We proudly offer a full range of paper currency, including national notes, silver certificates, and confederate notes. We love to meet new collectors and turn them into lifelong customers with our ever-changing inventory.

Research the latest rare coin discoveries.

We love reading up on the latest rare coin discovery! How people find some coins and how much they’re worth will surprise you. Like the man in the U.K. who, after a decade, returned to his hobby of being a metal detectorist and discovered a gold Henry III coin minted in 1257. It later sold for the equivalent of $740K! Or the rare 1652 silver shilling found in a candy tin and sold at auction for $351K.

Want to talk more about numismatics or have questions about a coin you’re just not sure about? Stop by! We’d love to chat, give you an appraisal, and celebrate National Coin Week with you!

Decluttering Your Jewelry Box: How We Can Help with Your Spring Cleaning

decluttering your jewelry box

Now that you’ve had time to settle into the New Year, it’s time to declutter and make room for the new things that 2022 will bring. It’s the time for spring cleaning, and there’s no telling what you might find hiding in the back of your closet, corner of your attic, junk drawers, or in those boxes in your garage. And here’s a pro tip: add a “Sell” pile to your “Keep,” “Trash,” and “Give Away” baskets. As you get into the spirit of the season, decluttering your jewelry box and other places can also allow you to cash in in the process!

Decluttering Your Jewelry Box this Spring

When decluttering your jewelry box, you’d be surprised what you can get back when you sell your preloved items. You could be sitting on extra cash for a date night, new shoes, a tank of gas, and more. One person’s old or unused jewelry, coins, and valuables are our treasure! So, bring in your stuff, and let us take a look to see what we can offer you back in cash or check the same day.

And if you’re thinking you can’t bring in a piece of jewelry to sell because it needs a little TLC, think again! We buy used and broken jewelry as well as the new stuff. Come in and allow us to value your haul—a handsome payday might be in your future!

Coins & Collections

You don’t have to have an entire coin collection to make a visit worth your while. A single coin can get you a worthwhile offer. It’s well worth it to have our experts evaluate the worth of any coins you may be unsure of.

We Take Sterling Silver Flatware & Hollowware

A particular relic of the past that usually holds a lot of sentimental value—but doesn’t get a lot of use—is sterling silver flatware and hollowware. These are the pieces in the wood case that may be a family heirloom or inheritance. If you have both flatware—forks, knives, spoons—and hollowware—coffee pots, tea kettles, platters—they can take up a good bit of space.

If you can tolerate parting ways with yours, we’d love to take a look at it and see what we can offer you. We determine value based on the weight of the items that are sterling silver. Take a look at this video to help you determine if your flatware and hollowware is real silver.

10 Minutes or Less

One of the best parts about working with us is that we don’t just value your valuables, we value your time too! Our evaluation and offer process usually takes 10 minutes or less, depending on the size of your haul. There’s no reason not to head our way after decluttering your jewelry box, junk drawers, and more!

We love meeting new people and helping long-time customers, alike, so stop by and show us what you’ve found. We’re conveniently located on University Drive in College Station!
